The Air Flow Inspector ensures that machined and cast components meet precise airflow specifications critical to aerospace and industrial performance standards. This role is responsible for performing airflow testing, recording results, and ensuring parts comply with customer, FAA, ITAR, and AS9100 quality requirements. By verifying that products meet strict tolerance and regulatory standards, the Air Flow Inspector supports safe and reliable operation of aircraft and other engineered systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Inspection & Testing

  • Perform airflow inspections on machined and cast parts using flow benches, meters, and approved aerospace testing equipment.
  • Verify that parts meet specified airflow tolerances according to engineering drawings, technique sheets, and inspection plans.
  • Record test data accurately and maintain documentation in accordance with AS9100 and company quality system requirements.
  • Identify non-conforming parts, document discrepancies, and escalate findings per ITAR/FAA compliance procedures.

Quality Control

  • Interpret and apply inspection criteria based on blueprints, customer specifications, and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, FAA, ITAR, and company quality requirements.
  • Assist in corrective action investigations by providing accurate inspection data and detailed feedback.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve inspection and quality issues.

Safety & Equipment Care

  • Follow plant safety practices, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standards at all times.
  • Maintain airflow test equipment and gauges in proper working condition, report calibration or maintenance needs immediately.
  • Handle aerospace components safely to prevent damage, contamination, or FOD (Foreign Object Debris).

Team & Documentation

  • Access computer systems to input, track, and review inspection and quality records.
  • Communicate inspection results clearly to machinists, supervisors, and quality engineers.
  • Train in standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality plans, and ITAR-controlled processes.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned to support production schedules and compliance requirements.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods during the shift.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds independently.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills required for precise part handling and measurements.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as needed to position parts for airflow testing.
  • Comfortable working in a machine shop and inspection lab environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • Prior experience in aerospace manufacturing or quality inspection strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, FAA, and ITAR compliance requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret aerospace blueprints, specifications, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and airflow testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation discipline.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

BENEFITS:

  • Eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, based on performance.
  • 80 hours of paid time off annually, plus 10 paid holidays.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate.
  • Company-paid basic life insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution.
