Nature of Work

Join a team where your technical expertise powers the heart of our campus operations. As a Mechanical Maintenance Worker II, you'll support and assist work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced HVAC control systems-including pneumatic, electric, electronic, and direct digital control (DDC) technologies. Your work ensures comfort, and efficiency HVAC operation across MU's facilities.

This role is part of a structured career path, offering clear opportunities for growth. Candidates that demonstrate commitment and competence will advance to Building Controls System Technician I. Further advancement opportunities for Building Controls System Technicians II, III, and IV are available, unlocking new career growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, source, and acquire components needed for system repairs and new project installations.
  • Manage and track inventory for campus projects.
  • Assist BCST staff with installing, repairing, and replacing HVAC control systems that support the daily operations of our buildings.
  • Take pride in maintaining tools and equipment, operating safely, and upholding the highest standards of workmanship.
  • Assist BCST staff by managing materials, cost estimates, and inventory records.
  • Grow your career by actively engaging in training and skill development to progress to BSCT-I.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental goals.

Work is performed under the guidance of a designated supervisor, with instructions provided through verbal communication, written documentation, and technical drawings.

Shift

7:00 am - 3:30 pm / Mon-Fri

Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
* Two years of working experience in the maintenance of facilities, with preference given for experience in the specific trade being filled OR completion of vocational education training in desired field OR equivalent military experience.
* Must pass a written test related to the specific trade being performed.
* Automatic promotion to Maintenance Mechanic III position upon successful completion of written exam and skill assessment.
* Automatic progression to Power Plant Control Systems Technician I or Building Controls Systems Technician I after 18 months and successfully completing a defined in-position training and skills assessment plan.
* The minimum time a person must spend in this position is 6 months. Person in this title will be allowed to remain in the position up to 18 months at which time they must have successfully completed the necessary requirement to move into the Maintenance Mechanic III position or higher. If they are unable to meet the minimum qualification of the Maintenance Mechanic III, they will be placed back in the position they were in before becoming a Maintenance Mechanic II.
* A person working in this classification will need, on a daily basis, to be able to:
- Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment
- Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy (50-80 lbs) objects
- Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
- Visually assess maintenance, construction, and repair needs
- Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
* Wear appropriate PPE while accomplishing assigned tasks.
* Must possess a valid driver's license, which will allow legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications

A valid State of Missouri Driver's License must be held and maintained by incumbents in the position.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong organizational abilities and proficiency in computer skills.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $22.00 - $25.00/hour

Grade: GGS-E
