Responsibilities

The Radiology Physician Assistant (RPA) provides diagnostic and interventional radiology services under the supervision of a licensed radiologist. The RPA performs fluoroscopic procedures, patient assessments, image interpretation, and other duties within the scope of practice as defined by state law, hospital privileging, and institutional policy.

The RPA functions as a mid-level provider, facilitating high-quality imaging services, promoting efficient department workflow, and ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. This role serves as a clinical and procedural extension of the radiologist in various settings, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional environments.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with certification.
2. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, ideally in radiology or interventional specialties.
3. Prior experience with fluoroscopy or image-guided procedures.
4. Current Physician Assistant license issued by the Texas Medical Board.
5. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
6. BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC) required upon hire and maintained.
7. Must be credentialed and privileged by the HMC Medical Staff Office.
8. Certified Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) designation preferred but not required if experience aligns with scope.
9. Certified Radiology Practitioner (RPA) or Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
