The Alliance and Business Development Manager is the key scientific and administrative contact for specific partnerships for the Technology Innovation and Development Office (TIDO) at Boston's Children's Hospital. This position reports into the alliance function within the Therapeutic and Medical Device Accelerator (TMDA).
- Develops partnerships with other organizations to further the hospital's strategic plan and goals.
- Ensure effective implementation of alliances and achievement of partnership goals.
- Represents the Hospital and TIDO in a number of external settings, including meeting with industry, and develops & maintains relationships with potential partners.
- Work with scientific and legal staff to oversee and streamline contracting for scientific collaborations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regularly promote TDMA-funded projects and Hospital programs to targeted audiences, including pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies, based on market analysis to secure commercial partnerships.
- Collaborate with the Senior Marketing Manager and Licensing Manager to develop marketing materials aligned with TDMA Directors' commercialization strategies to effectively showcase Hospital-funded assets to industry and investment groups.
- Maintain current knowledge of corporate and industry trends within the Hospital's strategic focus areas to identify emerging opportunities and potential partners.
- Identify, develop, and maintain strategic research and business relationships that create mutual value for the Hospital and its partners, expanding the network to enhance revenue-generating opportunities.
- Manage alliance partnerships with minimal oversight by coordinating communications, tracking deliverables, organizing meetings, and ensuring timely execution of research and licensing agreements.
- Support the identification and negotiation of new alliance opportunities while proactively resolving operational issues in coordination with TIDO, scientific, and legal teams.
Alliance Management Responsibilities:
- Builds and maintains relationships with external alliance partners and internal stakeholders through excellent, timely communication.
- Tracks and manages alliance research deliverables and ensure optimal resourcing of joint projects; manages communication of research deliverable with alliance partners.
- Enables establishment and maintenance of external collaborations by consulting within TIDO, scientific and legal staff, and driving the contracting process of sponsored research and licensing agreements.
- Operational management of alliances, including coordination of company kick-off meetings, outreach to the Institution's scientific community, scouting for research projects, call for proposals and technology due diligence, Joint Steering Committee meetings, proposals development, agreement development, and project management.
- Independently identifies, escalates, and drives the resolution of issues
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong scientific background in biotherapeutics and/or drug development.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, negotiation, and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, project management tools, and databases.
- Skilled at collaborating with key stakeholder.
- Creative thinker with solid presentation and problem-solving abilities.
- Broad experience with contracting processes, ideally within an academic setting.
Minimum Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, i.e., biology or chemistry (Masters preferred)
Experience
- 3 years' experience with managing large and complex scientific projects
- Some familiarity with business concepts either through MBA training or business courses preferred
