Position Summary The laboratory of Dr. Eric Greidinger, Associate Director of the Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation, investigates how innate immunityincluding STING signalingshapes the development and tissue targeting of autoimmune disease, and how anti-self responses arise in cancer. The long-term goal is to develop innovative therapies for conditions that currently lack effective treatments. The Researcher 4 is a PhD-level independent contributor with advanced expertise in immunology and translational research. This role emphasizes high-level scientific leadership, complex experimental design, and innovation in methodology. The incumbent will independently direct projects of significant scope, apply advanced technical knowledge to develop novel practices and solutions, and provide authoritative expertise to shape research strategy. The Researcher 4 may oversee the work of junior researchers and trainees, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the overall scientific direction of the laboratory. Duties amp; Responsibilities Project Leadership amp; Innovation
- Conceive, design, and direct highly complex research projects involving murine models, de-identified human samples, and advanced molecular/cellular immunology techniques (e.g., multi-parameter flow cytometry, multiplex PCR, IHC, RNA/DNA sequencing, CRISPR editing, Western blotting, and tissue culture).
- Independently develop new research practices, methodologies, or models that may set precedent within the lab and broader field.
- Lead cross-disciplinary initiatives that integrate immunology with translational and clinical science.
Research Execution amp; Data Analysis
- Conduct and oversee advanced experiments with a high degree of independence.
- Critically analyze, synthesize, and interpret complex data sets; provide expert troubleshooting for challenging technical and conceptual issues.
- Translate findings into actionable insights that inform ongoing and future research directions.
Scholarly Contributions amp; Grants
- Lead the development of grant applications as co-investigator or key collaborator, including design of scientific aims, methods, and analytical approaches.
- Draft and submit manuscripts to high-impact journals; present findings at national and international conferences.
- Perform in-depth literature synthesis to identify emerging trends and research opportunities.
Mentorship, Collaboration amp; Lab Operations
- Provide scientific guidance, training, and informal supervision to junior scientists, staff, and students.
- Collaborate across the Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation and OSUCCC to advance multi-PI and multi-disciplinary research efforts.
- Contribute to long-term strategy discussions and scientific planning for the lab.
Compliance, Procurement amp; Maintenance
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal research regulations, ethical standards, and safety requirements.
- Oversee procurement of specialized equipment, reagents, and technology platforms to support advanced research activities.
Other Duties as Assigned Required Qualifications
- Education: PhD or equivalent terminal degree required; OR 7 years of relevant research experience with a Bachelors Degree, 5 years with a Masters Degree, or 3 years with a Doctoral Degree.
- Experience/Skills:
- Demonstrated independent research accomplishments in immunology, molecular biology, or translational science.
- Proven ability to lead complex projects of significant scope, with impact on long-term research directions.
- Expertise in advanced laboratory methodologies, with ability to develop and validate new approaches.
- Strong grant writing and publication record in high-impact journals.
- Excellent leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and persuasively.
Additional Information The OSUCCC James is home to a National Cancer Institute (NCI)designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a freestanding cancer hospital. The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) is a bench-to-bedside initiative focused on harnessing the immune system against cancer, with strong emphasis on collaboration and innovation.
