Our growth trajectory gives us the opportunity to expand our team through the addition of a Research and Development Engineering Technician. This role will assist in the early-stage development and rapid prototyping of electro-mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will thrive working in an innovative and fast-paced work environment and have excellent applied technician skills across mechanical and electrical domains. This team member will play a pivotal role on the R&D team as we explore and vet novel solutions.

What You'll Do


  • Own SLS, SLA, and FDM 3D printing operations including printer maintenance, process definition, calibration, job scheduling, post-processing, and material purchasing
  • Assist engineers in the design, assembly, and testing of components, systems, and prototypes
  • Build and test wire harnesses for prototypes
  • Organize, define, and maintain R&D lab spaces and tools
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and specialized assembly equipment
  • Document and standardize R&D processes
  • Assist in the documentation of new systems and prototypes


Requirements


  • 3+ years in an electro-mechanical technician role, preferably in R&D, testing, early-stage design, or product development
  • Experienced with 3D printing processes and techniques
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and test equipment
  • Skilled in soldering
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (multimeters, calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Strong interdisciplinary skills with a degree of comfort with ambiguity
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment


Preferred


  • Experience in UAV aircraft, robotics development, and/or hobby drones
  • Experience with soldering and reworking surface-mount components
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with CAM/CNC processes


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift / carry up to 50 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard machine shop equipment as well as standard office equipment.Must be physically capable of tolerating loud noise, heat, cold, dust, or chemicals (with PPE).

Work Environment

This position typically operates in a standard office setting and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard office equipment and may involve exposure to loud noise, heat, cold, dust, or chemicals (with PPE) and may require occasional travel to test sites/customer locations/supplier facilities. This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities. Standard works hours for this position are 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional overtime as operational needs demand.
