Aon is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Technical Accounting Senior Manager to join our global finance team. This high-visibility role will be instrumental in shaping accounting policy, delivering technical accounting guidance, and supporting critical business initiatives such as M&A, consolidations (including VIEs), and disposals. The Senior Manager will act as a subject matter expert, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, and will be responsible for delivering impactful training and communications across the organization.

What the day will look like

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Aon's global accounting policies, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the primary resource for technical accounting inquiries, providing timely, accurate, and practical solutions to complex accounting issues raised by business leaders, finance teams, and auditors.
  • Support the accounting for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions, including purchase price allocation, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration.
  • Oversee and advise on consolidation accounting analyses of new entities, including the evaluation and assessment of Variable Interest Entities (VIEs) and other complex structures.
  • Provide technical support and review for significant or unusual transactions, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment and documentation.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting pronouncements, assess their impact on the organization, and implement necessary changes to policies and processes.
  • Develop and deliver targeted technical accounting training to finance and business teams to enhance organizational capability and awareness.
  • Prepare and present technical accounting matters to senior leadership ensuring clear communication of risks, opportunities, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors, ensuring proper documentation and supporting materials for all technical accounting matters.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives in accounting policies, processes, and controls.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in technical accounting, with strong exposure to US GAAP and/or IFRS.
  • Experience with accounting policy, consolidations (including VIEs), M&A accounting, and complex transactions.
  • Proven ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting standards to diverse scenarios.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated experience presenting complex technical matters to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring teams, and delivering technical training to finance professionals.
  • Familiarity with SOX/internal controls.
  • Proven ability to draft clear, comprehensive accounting position memos that support technical conclusions and facilitate stakeholder understanding.

Preferred

  • Public accounting and/or Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • CPA license
  • Experience in a large, multinational corporate environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization with multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with accounting research software and advanced Excel skills.

Pay Transparency Laws

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $140,000 - $160,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, Illinois. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
