GENERAL SUMMARY:
Recruits, orients, and supervises technical staff working within the Clinical Laboratory. Collaborates with the laboratory leadership team to promote retention of staff through recognition and promotion of teamwork within and across shifts.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- *Provides orientation and competency education for staff.
- *Monitors staff compliance related to safety and infection control guidelines.
- *Ensures communication and coordination with other ancillary units as well as nursing units.
- Collaborates with other members of the laboratory leadership team, including fellow supervisors, managers, and directors,to ensure seamless coordination across all lab functions.
- Facilitates cross-team communication to align priorities, share resources, and resolve operational challenges.
- Participates in regular leadership meetings to review performance metrics, quality standards, and workflow efficiency.
- Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives by collaborating on standard operating procedure (SOP) updates, training programs, and quality assurance strategies.
- Supports a culture of accountability and excellence through shared leadership and proactive problem-solving.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
- Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field required. Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience required, preferably in a hospital or clinical reference laboratory environment required. Prior employee training or supervisory experience preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
