GENERAL FUNCTION:

Through exhaustive fundamental research, identifies companies that can deliver superior investment performance and provides unique insights supporting the Fifth Third Wealth & Asset Management (W&AM) Portfolio Managers as well as the W&AM Director, Equity & Alternative Research. Employing independent thinking, provides stock research coverage and recommendations, and assists in the management of the W&AM Division High Conviction Portfolio. Reports directly to the W&AM Director, Equity & Alternative Research.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs autonomous quantitative and qualitative research on various securities (primarily domestic common stocks) for use in client accounts managed by W&AM Portfolio Managers and various W&AM division portfolios.
  • Responsible for research coverage of multiple sectors of the U.S equity markets, and has developed an exhaustive depth and breadth of knowledge of the industries, companies, and stocks in those sectors.
  • Informs W&AM Portfolio Managers and W&AM Director, Equity & Alternative Research of the trends of business conditions and/or other issues that could affect the domestic capital markets and individual stock prices. Accomplishes this through a variety of methods including via emails, conference calls and in-person visits.
  • Prepares internal and external research reports including notes and other documents to support stock recommendations. These reports are for use by W&AM Portfolio Managers and Director, Equity & Alternative Research.
  • Presents findings to additional internal and external constituencies including the media as needed.
  • Contributes to team success through the sharing of best practices. May act as SME, sharing functional, process, and/or professional expertise.
  • Special project work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May have supervisory, coaching, and/or mentoring responsibilities for Equity Research Analysts, W&AM Leadership Program Participants, and other W&AM staff.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA preferred.
  • CFA designation strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Superior quantitative and analytical skills.
  • At least seven to ten years of investment research experience (preferably in equities) required.
  • Possess intellectual curiosity, focus and creativity and have a keen research instinct with
  • creative problem solving skills.
  • Capable of generating financial models.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.
  • Extended viewing of CRT screen.
  • Travel requirement is approximately 25%.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
