This semi-skilled position plays a key role in maintaining the city's water distribution system through construction, service, and repair activities. Your work directly supports public health, fire safety, and the daily lives of thousands of residents. If you're ready to make a meaningful difference through hands-on service, we want you on our team. ** Employees who reside in the City of West Allis receive an additional 5% pay on top of the rate established for this position. ** What You'll Do As a Maintenance Repairer, you'll perform manual and semi-skilled tasks to support the upkeep of the City's water system
- Working independently or as part of a crew to repair, replace, and maintain water mains, valves, water services, and fire hydrants
- Performing curb box, hydrant, and valve preventive maintenance
- Locating underground utilities in response to Digger's Hotline requests
- Reading and recording water meter data at residential, commercial, and industrial properties
- Conducting meter maintenance and testing
- Operating heavy motorized equipment such as loaders, drill rigs, and hydro-excavation trucks
- Performing light to heavy manual labor and assisting in the maintenance and repair of City-owned buildings and grounds as needed
- Recommending improvements to procedures and processes to enhance efficiency
- Supporting departmental initiatives, including strategic planning, LEAN practices, and innovation
- Maintaining prompt, predictable, and regular attendance
- Providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communication
- Maintaining the ability to lawfully operate designated motor vehicles and travel throughout the jurisdiction
- Performing other duties as assigned, including tasks outside the scope of the Maintenance Repairer classification when qualified

- 2-3 years of experience maintaining water distribution systems, including piping, valves, and hydrants
- A High School Diploma or GED
- A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per City policy
- The ability to obtain a CDL Class B or C with airbrakes and Tanker Endorsement within 3 months of hire
