** Employees who reside in the City of West Allis receive an additional 5% pay on top of the rate established for this position. **

What You'll Do

As a Maintenance Repairer, you'll perform manual and semi-skilled tasks to support the upkeep of the City's water system

• Working independently or as part of a crew to repair, replace, and maintain water mains, valves, water services, and fire hydrants
• Performing curb box, hydrant, and valve preventive maintenance
• Locating underground utilities in response to Digger's Hotline requests
• Reading and recording water meter data at residential, commercial, and industrial properties
• Conducting meter maintenance and testing
• Operating heavy motorized equipment such as loaders, drill rigs, and hydro-excavation trucks
• Performing light to heavy manual labor and assisting in the maintenance and repair of City-owned buildings and grounds as needed
• Recommending improvements to procedures and processes to enhance efficiency
• Supporting departmental initiatives, including strategic planning, LEAN practices, and innovation
• Maintaining prompt, predictable, and regular attendance
• Providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communication
• Maintaining the ability to lawfully operate designated motor vehicles and travel throughout the jurisdiction
• Performing other duties as assigned, including tasks outside the scope of the Maintenance Repairer classification when qualified

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• 2-3 years of experience maintaining water distribution systems, including piping, valves, and hydrants
• A High School Diploma or GED
• A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per City policy
• The ability to obtain a CDL Class B or C with airbrakes and Tanker Endorsement within 3 months of hire
