This position will support the university's Department of Computer Science (UTCS) which boasts a top ten ranking from US News and more than 6,500 students across all programs. This places UT among the most significant intellectual hubs for computer science research and education anywhere in the world. UTCS has a close relationship with Austin's thriving tech culture and works at the forefront of fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. We are seeking an experienced Senior Human Resources Coordinator to lead HR support for the Department.

Purpose

The Sr. Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating human resources support for the Department of Computer Science.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Oversight: Lead the HR team and oversee all departmental HR processes. Manage and support the full employment lifecycle of faculty, staff, students, researchers, and affiliated workers in coordination with the HR Coordinator and the Finance and Administration team. This position will focus on supporting faculty and staff including researchers and affiliated workers while also overseeing student employment.
  • Recruitment, Onboarding, and Off-boarding: Oversee hiring processes for the Department. Collaborate with teams and supervisors to create new positions, consult on job postings, and assist with recruiting efforts for staff and research positions. Provide resources and guidance to hiring managers. Manage department onboarding for new employees, including new-hire orientation, training, and assistance with employee inquiries. Manage department off-boarding for separating employees.
  • Oversee employment visa and permanent residency documentation for faculty, researchers, and international scholars.
  • Policy and Training: Develop and implement HR policies and procedures specific to the department and in adherence to College of Natural Sciences and University policy. Supervise and provide ongoing training to the HR Coordinator. Provide training to faculty and staff as needed on HR policies and procedures.
  • Collaboration and Customer Service: In collaboration with department leadership, support personnel matters, changes in employment, leaves, and other HR needs. Provide reports to supervisors and the department. Liaise with and act as first point of contact for the College HR office, Payroll Services, Central HR, International Office, Provost Office and other related offices for all human resource functions. Demonstrate exceptional customer service with both internal and external customers. Contribute to a positive and productive workplace culture and promote collaboration and teamwork as part of the Finance and Administration team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a human resources function. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources best practices, processes, and regulations.

  • Effective interpersonal, people, and communication skills (written and verbal), with a demonstrated commitment to providing responsive and professional human resources support.

  • Ability to navigate a wide range of administrative tasks and shifting priorities with precision, confidentiality, and professionalism.

  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in HR in a higher education or public sector environment, especially within a large institution.

  • Familiarity with The University of Texas at Austin policies, procedures, and administrative systems.

  • Proficiency in Workday or other human resource administrative platform system(s).

  • Advanced knowledge of human resources best practices, policies and relevant laws and regulations, including for international employees.

  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the department proactively and develop systems to streamline processes.

  • Previous supervisory experience.

Salary Range

$70,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
