DIVERSION TO CARE DATA INTERN
DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for a Diversion to Care Data Intern in the Division of Public Health. The position will assist with data cleaning and analysis for a qualitative data project for the Diversion to Care team within the Division of Public Health. Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Programs Coordinator. The project aims to better understand the needs of people with substance use disorders (SUD) in Worcester. The intern will work closely with program staff to review, analyze, and code materials from community-based participatory research. They will identify and code common themes, support data organization, and contribute to the development of a summary of findings.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:



  • Attend community data events and assist with data collection.
  • Review transcripts for accuracy and consistency.
  • Conduct qualitative coding of transcripts to identify key themes, patterns, and insights.
  • Assist with data cleaning and organization to prepare for analysis.
  • Contribute to the synthesis of findings, including charts, summaries, or reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines when handling sensitive data.
  • Attend meetings with the grant manager and epidemiologist as needed.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under all circumstances.
  • Ability to work effectively with confidential, sensitive information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Regular onsite attendance is required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in public health, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in behavioral health, substance use disorder, or community-based research.
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods and coding (e.g., thematic analysis).
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree program in public health, psychology, sociology or related field.
  • Experience with NVivo software.
