Job Overview:
The Engineering Technician is responsible for on-time set-up and execution of standard and non-standard laboratory tests to support new product development, sustaining current products, and customer return investigations with some guidance and supervision. This includes commissioning and maintaining endurance test units, troubleshooting customer returns, maintaining accurate and recoverable testing records, and preparing drafted lab reports. This position will also be responsible for maintaining a neat and organized work area and follow all safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Setup, commission, maintain, monitor, and document endurance test units.


  • Investigate returned units to verify customer issues and complete root cause analysis with guidance from the test and engineering team.


  • Support test setups and testing with guidance from the test and engineering team.


  • Responsible for providing accurate, repeatable, and retrievable data to test and engineering team.


  • Responsible for supporting schedules and executing tasks on time.


  • May be responsible for multiple units and tests.


  • Assemble and maintain test units, fixtures, and equipment using power hand tools, band saws, drill presses, grinders, and other related tools.


  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members within engineering and from other departments.


  • Utilize originality and creativity to suggest ideas for cost reductions, improvements in product performance or improvements in product quality.


  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve the value Ingersoll Rand can provide to customers. Perform additional tasks on special job functions as assigned.


  • Follow work procedures and parameters as provided by the test and engineering team.


  • Assist in the fabrication, assembly and testing of prototypes and product builds.


  • Work with the test and engineering team to learn and set up standard Laboratory test equipment including data acquisition systems, power analyzers, flow equipment, pressure, and temperature measurement devices and more.


  • Provide support to maintain facilities and equipment.


  • Must conduct affairs of the company and interact with suppliers and customers in a professional and ethical manner at all times.

  • Position may require overtime.

  • May physically lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with provided machinery and personnel.

  • Work areas and operations may require the use of safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).


  • The employee may encounter routine exposure to grease, oil, and cleaning agents.





Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3 years work experience with mechanical and electrical system.

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent




Core Competencies:


  • Comply with safety and housekeeping requirements in daily work and assigned area.


  • Basic understanding and use of MS Office products and other required computer programs and systems.


  • Demonstrate basic hands-on understanding of mechanical and electrical components and their principles, properties, and theories.


  • Basic understanding of schematics, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical reports, safety rules, operation, and maintenance instructions.


  • Ability to utilize a variety of measurement tools and methods to evaluate finished parts against specifications (i.e. calipers, micrometers, height gage, dial indicator, etc.).


  • Ability to understand and follow work instructions and applicable test standards.


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to speak and listen effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization.


  • Ability to work effectively under a variance of temperature and noise levels.


  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.


  • Basic level of reading and understanding of operator's manuals and engineering drawings.


  • Ability to operate power hand tools, band saw, drill press, grinder etc.





Preferences:



  • Two-year Technical Associate's Degree preferred

  • Experience with Ingersoll Rand products is a plus




Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements


  • Fully site based at Global Innovation Center located in Mooresville, NC with no anticipated travel.
