Job Description - Chief of Staff
Position Description
The Chief of Staff creates an environment for the CEO that results in effective time management, adequate flow of information, understanding of the political landscape and meeting preparedness, to support effective decision-making processes. This position is an integral part of the CEO's day-to-day activities and as such, will identify key issues, industry research and input from other leaders to act as an advisor to the CEO. Leads the CEO Administration team to ensure Officer team receives reliable and efficient administrative support. Lead projects as directed, supports the officer team on major initiatives, providing additional capabilities and capacity.
Position-Related Responsibilities
- Manage information flow to/from the CEO
- Manage development of presentations
- Ensure the materials are delivered on time and on target
- Ensure CEO is prepared in advance of meetings and presentations
- Understand the objective, the audience and key messages
- Conduct background research on relevant issues/audiences
- Help refine the CEO's message and ensure that it is understood by the right audiences
- Review developed materials with CEO
- Advisor to the CEO
- Advisor regarding CEO decisions and public engagements relative to Political Landscape
- Provide capacity and capability to the officer team
- Provides preparation and structure for executive team and officer meetings
- Maintains oversight of status of strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Lead certain projects related to team or organizational effectiveness, or culture Identifies collaboration opportunities and bring teams together to achieve better results.
- Lead CEO Administration team
- Supervises and supports development of the CEO Administration team to provide efficient and reliable administrative support for the CEO and officer team
- Responsible for success of major events and activities planned by Executive Coordinators
- Coordinate board materials, provide comprehensive support for board preparation, and assist with planning and administrative functions.
- Strategy Development and Tracking Support
- Coordinate with leaders to track progress toward goals.
- Support execution of strategy through bridging gaps between silos or business units to ensure alignment.
This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
- A Bachelor's degree is required preferably in Business, Legal, Engineering, Public administration/public policy, or related disciplines.
- 5-10 years' experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above and ideally a combination of education and experience.
- Good understanding of our industry, company and communities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse groups across functional lines and effectively build relationships
- Good interpersonal skills are critical. Assigning and managing projects throughout the organization requires the ability to be both assertive and diplomatic
- Trustworthy, discrete and ability to maintain confidences

- Ability and willingness to travel including occasional overnight stays and conferences
