MedStar Health is looking for a Unit Secretary to join our team at Southern Maryland Hospital Center!

The Unit Secretary is Responsible for performing secretarial, clerical and receptionist support duties necessary for the operations of a patient care unit. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties:

• Performs clerical and secretarial functions including answering phones, managing correspondence, and maintaining an organized and efficient nursing unit.
• Coordinates patient care activities by assisting nursing staff with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and ensuring accurate, timely communication of patient information.
• Maintains and updates patient records by preparing, organizing, and processing charts, forms, and documentation in accordance with hospital procedures
• Serves as the unit's communication liaison by greeting visitors, answering questions, relaying messages, and collaborating with hospital departments to obtain needed services or supplies.
• Supports overall unit operations through maintaining inventory, ensuring a clean work environment, and assisting in training new staff members.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention training within 6 months of hire. (Required)
• Associates degree (Preferred)
• 6 months unit secretary, registration or medical records or related clerical experience in a health care setting (Preferred)
• Experience in an acute care setting (Preferred)

This position has a hiring range of $18 - $29.74
