Position Description: |
The Department of Classics at The University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time Instructional Track Faculty member (open rank) in Latin language and literature and Roman civilization/history to begin Fall 2026. This is a non-tenure track position. The teaching load is four courses per academic semester. We are seeking a candidate with proven pedagogical skills in Latin language instruction and experience teaching hybrid online courses. Our first- and second-year Latin courses meet 3 days each week with a 4th hour (asynchronous) online component each week. The successful candidate will teach courses in Latin language and literature and courses such as Roman Civilization, Love and Glory: Literature of Rome, and courses in Roman history and culture. Education Requirement: |
- Ph.D. in Classics or related field at time of appointment.

Required Qualifications: |
- Two years of experience teaching Latin.
|
Desirable Qualifications: |
- Experience teaching hybrid online language courses.
- Experience developing online tools and materials for teaching Latin.
- Experience teaching courses in Roman history.
- Experience teaching large lecture courses.
