Project Crew Supervisor

Location: Davidson College, Davidson, NC 28036

Position Type: Full-Time, Hands-On Leadership Role

About the Position:

Davidson College is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Project Crew Supervisor to oversee and manage the project crew responsible for setting up, maintaining, and moving equipment and furniture across campus. This is a critical leadership role that requires strong employee relations skills, organizational expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

The Project Crew Supervisor will interact with vendors, faculty, staff, and employees at all levels while ensuring seamless execution of setups, furniture moves, and specialized floor maintenance. This position requires a proactive approach to leadership, problem-solving, and team motivation to maintain high morale and efficiency.

This role demands flexibility, as workloads vary daily, some days may require intense physical labor, while others require delegation and productivity planning. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative in keeping their team always engaged and productive.

This position is required to be on call (rotate between team)

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Leadership



  • Maintain strong employee relations across campus while ensuring smooth operations.
  • Lead and motivate the project crew, ensuring high morale and teamwork.
  • Organize daily schedules with attention to priority tasks and campus-wide needs.
  • Supervise furniture moves, event setups, and specialized floor maintenance.
  • Train employees in the proper use of floor care equipment, including:
  • Side-by-side floor machines
  • Stripping and waxing equipment
  • Carpet extractors
  • Bonnet machines


Operational & Logistical Support



  • Oversee the transport and setup of furniture and equipment across various locations on campus.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of box trucks, pickup trucks, and golf carts (Valid driver's license required).
  • Manage vendor coordination and deliveries, ensuring smooth operations and communication.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and maintain records of equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Provide solutions for logistical challenges, ensuring all setups are completed efficiently.


Administrative & Technical Duties:



  • Maintain and update daily schedules using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ensure compliance with campus safety and operational protocols.
  • Track crew assignments and adjust work schedules as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with vendors, faculty, and other departments to coordinate special projects.


Hands-On Responsibilities



  • Assist in moving furniture, supplies, and heavy equipment when necessary.
  • Support floor care maintenance when required.
  • Ensure that crew members stay engaged and productive, even on lighter workload days.
  • Monitor and maintain work efficiency and adherence to safety guidelines.


Qualifications & Skills Required

Education & Experience



  • High School Graduate.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience in logistics, custodial operations, or a related field.
  • Experience in facilities management, event setup, or project coordination is preferred.


Technical & Professional Skills



  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for scheduling and tracking work.
  • Knowledge of floor care equipment and techniques, including stripping, waxing, and carpet extraction.
  • Ability to train and supervise crew members on equipment usage and safety protocols.


Soft Skills:



  • Strong leadership and motivational skills to foster a productive and engaged team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, recognizing urgent needs vs. routine work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills to manage shifting demands.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with faculty, staff, and vendors.
  • Hands-on work ethic, with the ability to lead by example when physical labor is required.
