Position Summary:
A Grant Accountant position oversees the financial
administration of grants and contracts from award setup through award closeout
and ensures compliance with all Federal, State, University and sponsor
policies, procedures, and guidelines. This position works closely with the
financial and administrative units throughout the university. In addition, the
senior grant accountant provides training to new hires in the Office of
Research and routinely contributes by providing presentations and training to
current staff, both within the Office of Research and to other units as needed.

Essential Functions:
-Approve all sponsored transactions in accordance
with the award terms and conditions, uniform guidance, and institutional
policy. Transactions include the procurement of equipment, payroll expenses,
and graduate student assistant nomination forms, sub-award budgeting, and
travel expenses. Approval includes verification of available budget and correct
object codes.
-Provide training to Office of Research
staff and other units on financial compliance issues related to sponsored
research on a routine basis.
-Train new employees in post-award management on NJIT policies, procedures and
systems.
-Prepare and submit interim and final financial reports for sponsors,
including cost share reports. Preparation of sponsor financial reports includes
analysis of budgets, expenditures, encumbrances, and receivables.
-Verify accuracy of award setup,
modifications, and budget information in Banner, including funding source,
rates, and billing requirements.
-Resolve accounting issues including project over runs and accelerated
spending.
-Track, manage, and validate cost share commitments are being met.
-Prepare awards for closeout in accordance with the sponsor terms and
conditions.
-Provide training and guidance on compliance related matters to the research
community.
-Provide support for various audit activities involving sponsored awards.
-Other Job Duties: Work on special projects as requested and perform other
related duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-At least 2 years of experience in post-award
research administration and/or grant accounting.
-A bachelor's degree in
business, research administration, or related field.
-Excellent qualitative and quantitative skills.
-Experience in a college or university, or other not-for-profit institution
performing similar job functions.
-Ability to interact professionally with all levels of university personnel as
well as external constituencies.
-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel (i.e.
pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) or similar programs.
-Demonstrated success in a position managing concurrent, high-volume number of
requests while providing superior customer service.
-Extensive knowledge of Uniform Guidance, effort reporting, cost sharing, and
overhead rates.
-Dedicated, high-integrity professional
and team player.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-More than 3 years of experience in post-award research administration and/or
grant accounting.
-Professional certification in research
administration (e.g. CRA or CFRA).

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $66,844.56-$124,923.48 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
