About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking a talented Project Air Quality Specialist - Modeling to join our growing air quality practice. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise in air dispersion modeling for various industrial (or manufacturing) pollutants and Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The individual will serve as a technical resource for various air permitting applications or amendments, and regulatory compliance analyses.

SWCA provides our clients with high quality air permitting, planning, and modeling services across the country. Qualified candidates will have demonstrable consulting experience in the power generation, oil and gas, and/or industrial sectors.

The position is a full-time, regular (with benefits), salaried position, that is hybrid and/or remote eligible in the U.S.

What you will accomplish

  • Leads Air Quality Modeling projects and tasks from start to finish.
  • Provide technical leadership for air permit applications or amendments, Title V compliance reporting, development of source category specific emission factors, estimating emissions, and regulatory compliance analyses for various industry sectors.
  • Lead and provide quality control for air dispersion modeling analysis in accordance with project requirements and guidelines
    • Develop emission calculations (criteria pollutants, hazardous air pollutants, and greenhouse gases) following regulatory requirements and/or requirements of greenhouse gas emission programs.
    • Calculate emissions to determine impacts using various air pollutant emission and noise models and documenting the results in technical reports
  • Collaborate with other SWCA practitioners to execute air quality projects, including participating on teams comprised of Air Quality professionals from multiple offices across the organization.
  • Support growth and development of SWCA's air quality services.
  • Responsible for executing specific task assignments as requested by the Air Quality Director and Project Managers.
  • Takes responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemical, mechanical, environmental science, or related degree.
  • Seven (7) years of work experience within an industrial, consulting or regulatory agency required, with at least two (2) of those years within a private sector environment.
  • A demonstrated expertise in air quality permitting, air dispersion modeling, and emission inventories.
  • Working knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory authorities and air quality regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with US EPA screening level and dispersion modeling platforms including: AERSCREEN, VISCREEN, AERMOD, and CALPUFF.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Strong attention to detail Flexible and willingness to support non-air related projects as needed
  • Excellent time management skills to support multiple activities on an on-going basis by given deadline
  • Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering, chemical, mechanical, environmental science, or related degree.
  • P.E. of E.I.T. licensed.
  • Demonstrated consulting experience in the power generation, oil & gas, and/or industrial sectors.

An employee in this remote-based position can expect an annual salary of $97,188.00 - $127,764.00. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
