The Director of Sales - East plays a pivotal leadership role in driving regional growth, profitability, and strategic execution across a dynamic and competitive healthcare landscape. This position is responsible for leading a high-performing sales team, developing and executing innovative business plans, and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders including surgeons, hospital executives, distributors, and internal leadership. With a deep understanding of market trends and customer needs, the Director will champion cross-functional collaboration, fiscal discipline, and talent development to ensure the region consistently meets or exceeds its business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the regional sales team to deliver revenue, margin, and market share growth, ensuring the region consistently meets or exceeds business objectives
- Develop strategic account plans in collaboration with sales management teams and sales professionals
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, decision-makers and key opinion leaders in assigned geographies
- Remain highly knowledgeable of evolving market and industry trends, competitive positioning, and customer strategies to proactively adjust business plans.
- Oversee and manage the regional expense budget, ensuring fiscal discipline while enabling growth initiatives.
- Create and execute annual regional sales plans to expand market presence and drive adoption.
- Deliver sales presentations and business updates to surgeons, hospital executives, distributors, and senior internal stakeholders.
- Partner cross-functionally with marketing, market development, sales training, medical education, finance, operations, and HR to ensure alignment on resource allocation, product launches, and talent development.
- Mentor and develop managers and high-potential talent within the region, building a pipeline of future leaders and strengthening organizational capability.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by communicating performance trends, competitive insights, order status, and pipeline updates.
- Structure, negotiate, and manage independent agent/distributor partnerships and 1099 representative relationships to maximize regional coverage and growth.
- Take on special projects or stretch assignments that support enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, life sciences, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive sales management experience, including regional or multi-state responsibility
- Proven ability to successfully sell and close large capital equipment deals with complex decision-making processes
- Proven ability to successfully negotiate and execute disposable product conversions at the facility level
- Proven ability to build influential relationships with surgeons and key stakeholders
- Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams that consistently exceed revenue and growth targets
- Demonstrated capabilities related to performance management and proactive turnover of underperforming sales teams and/or individuals
- Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze complex market dynamics, identify risks/opportunities, and develop actionable strategies.
- Experience structuring, negotiating, and managing indirect sales channel partnerships to accelerate growth and ensure alignment.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills; able to build credibility with executive-level stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, forecast accurately, and make data-driven decisions.
Disclosure as required by applicable law, the annual salary range for this position is $147,900 to $229,500 with bonus opportunity. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill level. The salary range is CONMED's good faith belief at the time of this posting.
