YOUR ROLE: This scientist is responsible for optimizing and scaling up chemical processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective production up to a 2000L scale. The role involves leading development efforts, designing experiments, analyzing process data, and implementing improvements in synthetic routes and methodologies. The role will also entail line management - mentoring and career development - of other scientists. The role extends to collaboration with cross-functional teams to transfer and troubleshoot manufacturing issues, enhance yields, and ensure compliance with GMP and EHS standards.
YOUR EXPERIENCE: We are seeking a scientist with expertise in organic synthesis, analytical techniques, and process simulation tools. The ideal candidate will lead innovation in process design and contribute significantly to the development of high-quality products. CORE DUTIES: 1. Design of processes for optimization and scale-up of a variety projects. Apply novel methods of experimentation to solve complex problems. 2. Organize and direct assigned projects, establishing objectives and developing individual research plans. High level of expectation to meet deadlines of assigned projects in support of the research program. 3. Maintain a high level of knowledge related to current developments in scientific field of expertise. 4. Perform all laboratory projects in accordance with established safety procedures in assigned laboratory or work area. Responsible for monitoring safety practices of assigned personnel. 5. Maintain accurate research documentation. Organize program results and prepare project status reports or presentations for the research team and business associates. 6. Conduct interpretive literature reviews for future project ideas. Present oral and written reports to outside scientific collaborators and/or business associates as directed by company leadership. 7. Assist and provide consultation in the transfer of the scaled-up process into the manufacturing group. 8. Lead the development of manufacturing methods, including documentation. 9. Collaborate with Manufacturing and Process Research and contribute creatively to current and prospective projects. Determine the business case to support new production processes and equipment. 10. Implement process development and engineering control practices within manufacturing. Bring high statistical capability to processes and test methods. 11. May conduct educational seminars within the department to advance technical and theoretical competence. 12. Establish contacts with outside vendors for specialized services or materials. 13. Understand and comply with all elements of the quality system appropriate for this position. 14. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and 5-8 years of experience or MS in Organic Chemistry and 10+ years of experience. 2. Experience in process development and scale-up of organic chemicals. Knowledge of fluorescent and bioluminescent technologies. 3. Full understanding of modern organic chemistry analytical methods such as NMR, TLC, HPLC, etc. 4. Shows good judgment about which creative ideas and suggestions will work and can facilitate effective and collaborative brainstorming. 5. Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems. 6. Ability to work independently on complex assignments. 7. Strong safety mindset. 8. Outstanding critical thinking and troubleshooting skills. 9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret and communicate scientific results and to interact productively with scientists in the team. 10. Successful in implementing ideas and influencing people in a team environment. Recognized for organized, effective, and professional communication skills. Strong ability to independently resolve interpersonal conflicts. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to present research projects to others including senior managers and outside customers or collaborators. 2. Experience in polymers or particle chemistry. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Ability to work at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time. 2. Ability to work with hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals) so as not to endanger oneself or others. 3. Ability to use computers in an interactive manner for extended periods of time. 4. Ability to work in a production environment around automated equipment. 5. Ability to use standard laboratory personal protective equipment (e.g., goggles, lab coat, protective gloves). 6. Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 lb. occasionally. 7.
