Quality Control Analyst II

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Analyst II independently performs quality control inspection, testing and data analysis for various incoming, in process and final products within MSD's protein-based immunoassay catalog. This role requires a strong command of analytical methods and immunoassay techniques to assess product quality and ensure compliance with established specifications. In addition to testing responsibilities, the Analyst II manages laboratory maintenance activities, oversees inventory and reagent preparation, and ensures adherence to quality and regulatory standards. The Analyst II also contributes to training junior staff, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and exercises sound scientific judgment with minimal supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Complete testing of incoming, manufactured, and in-process materials using analytical characterization and/or immunoassay testing techniques (e.g. ELISA).

* Interpret analytical data to evaluate product quality, assess trends, and determine compliance with established specifications.

* Create and maintain quality documentation, SOPs, and data summaries in compliance with ISO standards.

* Operate standard laboratory equipment including micropipettes, plate washers, automated liquid handling systems, analytical instrumentation, and plate readers.

* Prepare and maintain inventories of common reagents.

* Adhere to organizational and laboratory safety standards including the proper use of personal protective equipment.

* Contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

* Lead QC procedures including the training of other analysts.

* Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline is required.

o High School Diploma and additional experience may be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

* A minimum of one year of experience in an industrial biotech setting is required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Solid understanding of core molecular biology techniques including immunoassays.

* Precision pipetting techniques to ensure accurate measurements for quantitative analytical assays.

* Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding environment with changing priorities

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with personnel at all levels

o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of laboratory data

* Proficiency in MS Office suite

o Experience with standard data analysis tools and databases (Excel, Access, SharePoint)

* Ability to work outside of normal business hours to include long hours, weekends and shift schedules.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* There are aspects of this position that may require a person in this role be able to work at heights up to four (4) feet on occasion and with objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

* Up to 100 % of the day may be spent sitting or standing at a desk/lab bench working with a computer or other items that will require fine motor manipulation

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Laboratory environment working with chemical reagents and performing some Biosafety Level 2 work

o May involve handling of BSL-2 materials and organisms including human blood and/or blood products

* Standard office environment

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,100 to $87,900. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
