The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 6, Maintenance Division is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Contract Inspector (Transportation Engineering Technician IV) in Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this SHA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work:
The main purpose of this position is to provide technical direction and inspection work for the District 6 Maintenance Office for Contracts in Allegany, Washington, and Garrett counties. This position will supervise a staff of subordinate Facility Maintenance Technicians (FMT) and Transportation Engineering Technicians (TET) level inspectors, administration, and consultant employees. The Maintenance Contract Inspector will also serve as the assistant Project Engineer for all maintenance contracts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Selective Qualification: Two and a half (2.5) years of the required experience must have involved maintenance and/or construction inspection.

*A Selective Qualification is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.
2. Applicants who possess an associate degree in either engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the five-year experience requirement.


Licenses & Certifications

Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.

Candidates will also be required to obtain the following certifications within their probationary period:

  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician
  • Temporary Traffic Control Manager Certification
  • Line Striping Certification
  • Flagger Certification

Special Requirements:

  • Must be available and willing to accept assignments in all of District 6 (Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties).
  • The position is considered essential and must be available and willing to work shift work, nights, overtime, or weekends as necessary.
