About the Role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join the Nature Energy Team.

This exciting position involves being part of a team of editors that will work closely - and flexibly - with the existing Nature Journals. The ideal candidate would be a critical thinker with a deep understanding of their subject, curiosity, and a desire to learn about areas beyond it, and who can think on their feet.

Candidates should have broad expertise in energy system modeling, involving the analysis of how energy is produced, distributed, stored, and consumed across multiple technologies and time scales. Relevant areas may include technoeconomic analysis, lifecycle assessment, renewable and storage integration, demand-side management, and scenario analysis for decarbonization. Expertise in energy system engineering is also welcome.

Role responsibilities:

  • Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
  • Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
  • Contributing to content and strategy in this area at Nature Energy
  • Commissioning, editing content such as Reviews, Perspectives, Comments or writing editorials.
  • Liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.
  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in Energy system modeling or energy system engineering.
  • A keen interest in research both within and beyond your specialty.
  • The ability to absorb and understand new areas of research.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Time management and work prioritization skills
  • Postdoctoral experience preferred.
  • Previous editorial experiencepreferred.
  • Expertise in any other related disciplines in addition to those listed above.

  • a News and Views-style piece (no more than 600 words) on a recent paper from the energy research literature that you found particularly interesting

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000 / Senior Editor: $95,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
