SPACEPORT DESIGNER, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

As a member of the Starbase Development team, you will be directly responsible for designing outdoor environments across a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. You will directly manage all phases of projects from concept development through execution. You will work with a group of elite engineers and construction project managers across multiple disciplines to build out the Starbase campus as the gateway to Mars. This position is based in Starbase, Texas (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Coordinate with stakeholders and end users to design and build aesthetic and functional outdoor spaces, including landscaping, hardscaping, and other civil and architectural projects across the site, including managing all phases of the project from planning to final delivery
  • Design landscapes that are suitable to south Texas and the microclimate within Starbase, with attention to details on soil conditions, sun and wind exposure, irrigation, and water supply in plant selection
  • Develop maintenance plans to accompany landscape designs; review and provide recommendations to improve efficiency of ongoing landscaping maintenance
  • Develop and issues landscape, hardscape, lighting, irrigation, grading, and drainage design drawings and documents for projects
  • Create drawings, planting details, plant schedules and specifications, and 3D renders for landscaping projects
  • Write and manage landscaping installation contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out. Review and support with landscaping maintenance contracts with Facilities team
  • Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details for all functional and utility needs
  • Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control. Design project to meet target budgets
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
  • Takes on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and works autonomously and efficiently in a dynamic team environment


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years of experience creating landscaping and hardscaping designs


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, architectural engineering, civil engineering, or other related discipline
  • Experience with grading & drainage, specifications for plants, lighting, finishes and furnishings
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software
  • Proficiency in rendering software (Photoshop, Lumion, Sketchup, D5, Enscape, or similar)
  • Experience with designing, installing, maintaining landscaping in south Texas or similar climates, or other locations with unique climate challenges
  • Proficiency in Revit, Civil 3D
  • Experience in master site planning
  • Experience in construction and project management
  • Experience in irrigation design
  • Basic knowledge of photometric analysis and electrical design for landscape lighting requirements
  • Basic knowledge of horticulture or botany for the purposes of plant selection and maintenance given challenging climatic and environmental conditions
  • Licensed in the state of Texas


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area) and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
