SUMMARY This role ensures adherence to all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and supports our commitment to operational excellence and environmental stewardship. The position is responsible for environmental compliance with all applicable laws and standards at the Lake Charles North and South Plants. The Environmental Manager leads the Environmental Team in developing and implementing proactive management systems, checks and balances, and other necessary systems to ensure effective environmental compliance at both sites. The Environmental Manager is a member of the LCN/S leadership team and must interact effectively with other department managers and regulatory officials, setting a positive image for both the Environmental Department and the Company. The role coordinates resources required to implement environmental programs and processes, including contractor and consultant assistance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage and direct all aspects of the environmental compliance program. Provide environmental compliance direction to the Leadership Team, technical staff, and unit support personnel.
- Effective leadership of the Environmental Team:
- Effective and capable leadership of direct and indirect environmental staff.
- Responsible for effective human resources management process, including performance management, employee development, and talent management.
- Responsible for creating an engaging and positive workplace culture and fostering teamwork among work teams.
- Manage and direct regulatory compliance activities:
- Reviews and incorporates environmental standards originated by applicable regulatory agencies and recommends necessary action to attain compliance. Must keep fully informed on all existing and proposed changes in applicable regulations and permit requirements.
- Conducts audits and investigations of environmental programs at the facility(s) and identifies and controls significant loss producing exposures as well as compliance with company standards.
- Coordinates resources required to implement program / processes including subcontractors.
- Evaluates performance of program activities and provides summary report to division management as well as making recommendations / corrective actions to management.
- Develops and implements record keeping and investigation procedures for environmental incidents.
- Develops and conducts environmental training programs.
- Role model and leader for the company, including but not limited to:
- Active member of site Leadership Team, providing effective communication and follow-up regarding environmental regulatory requirements, priorities and objectives.
- Manages the environmental budget.
- Regular communication and coordination with the Region 1 HSE Manager and other Environmental Managers within Westlake.
- Responsible for making recommendations and presentations to senior management based on accepted environmental methodology.
- Effective communication of site environmental priorities and objectives.
- Serve as liaison for on-site management relative to local environmental issues.
- Assist in establishing and communicating corporate environmental standards and expectations.
- Maintains a working relationship with all appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Manages the assessment of environmental requirements and their impact on proposed projects.
- Effectively interacting with Governmental officials, corporate executives, and other departments to meet the requirements/goals of those individuals.
- Comply with and serve as role model for all Company values, policies and procedures.
- Maintain key leadership role in plant emergencies, weather events, or other critical situations.
- In conjunction with other departments, defining and aggressively pursuing Environmental goals.

- Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
- Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned or directed by local management and/or the Region 1 HSE Manager.
- Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others. Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Chemical/ Environmental Engineering Degree or degree in a related field and minimum of 8 years of experience.
- Experience should include a minimum of 3 years of management / supervisory responsibility.
- Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
