AEM is a leader in risk and resiliency for water and wastewater utilities. We are looking to expand our team with an Emergency Planning Specialist who is organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and a team player to produce high-quality work. This team supports community water and wastewater utilities in determining risks, improving resilience, and developing Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) to better prepare them to react to emergency situations. The ideal candidate will have experience with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Section 1433, also known as America's Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) of 2018. This position will also include client and development support of PARRE, AEM's proprietary risk assessment application. Typical tasks will include:
Determining risk values based on discussions with clients and known methodologies
Development of methods to assess new or unique threats to the water sector
Complete gap assessments and updates to ERPs
Assist with tabletop and functional exercise planning and execution
Attending and assisting with facilitation of workshops
Working with a wide range of stakeholders including clients, emergency managers, content experts, developers, and partners.
Note-taking and drafting documentation, reports, and plans
Software testing and test script development
Coordinating and tracking progress of the work, objectives, deliverables, and timelines
Developing professional deliverables and reports as identified in the work plan/scope and within the given timeline.
Basic qualifications/experience (the required qualificationswhich are critical to be considered for the position:
A Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience who hold other degrees or certifications will be considered.
5+ years experience in Risk Assessments and/or Emergency Response Plans with water and/or wastewater utilities
Ability to travel 25%
Desired skills/certifications (any additional skills desired but not required to be considered for the position):
Completion of AWWA Utility Risk and Resilience Certificate Program
Familiarity with the SDWA, Section 1433
Proficiency with risk assessment tools, such as PARRE or VSAT
Excellent time management and ability to self-manage multiple concurrent tasks
Strong professional writing skills
