Class III Machine Set-Up Operator - 2nd Shift

Location:Albany, MO
Shift:2nd Shift | Full-Time

Pay: $21.15 + $1.00 Shift Premium for 2nd Shift

Position Summary

You will set up and operate metal fabricating machines such as brakes, shears, raceways, and punches to cut, bend, straighten, and form metal plates, sheets, and structural shapes. The successful candidate will contribute to the production of high-performance products that support Johnson Controls' mission of creating smarter, healthier environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation.

  • Select, position, and secure tooling and fixtures onto machine.

  • Position and clamp stops, guides, and turntables.

  • Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors such as pressure and depth of ram stroke, adjustment rolls, blade angle, and machine speed.

  • Locate and mark bending or cutting lines and reference points on workpiece.

  • Position workpiece against stops and guide or align layout marks with dies or cutting blades.

  • Start machine and observe machine operation to reposition workpiece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes.

  • Inspect and/or measure work.

  • Label parts and move them to proper storage location.

  • Document deviations from prints or specifications and take appropriate corrective action.

  • Perform all Class I and II jobs.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Language Ability

  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language - this includes simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos (i.e. safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, shop-floor paperwork, and procedure manuals)

  • Ability to write simple correspondence

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

Math Ability

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to compute rate and percent and interpret bar graphs

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills

  • Basic computers skills required

Certificates & Licenses

  • Operating a fork truck is essential function and operator must be licensed by the Company before operating a fork truck
