The Donor Recovery Technician is responsible for the coordination and execution of birth tissue acquisition in a hospital environment to be used for transplant and/or research. The Donor Recovery Technician reports to the Donor Service Supervisor.

What you will be doing?

Accurately complete required paperwork with potential donors (Informed Consent, Medical Social History, etc.)

Acquire birth tissue safely and aseptically within a sterile field.

Collect relevant medical records and screen each donor for medical eligibility prior to tissue acquisition.

Coordinate collection of donor blood samples with hospital staff.

Package, label, and ship or transport recovered tissues and blood samples.

Maintain appropriate stock of supplies and organization/cleanliness of storage & acquisition areas within the hospital.

Develop and maintain relationships with hospital staff.

Actively procure outstanding documentation and information required for donor chart completion, working collaboratively with the Donor Eligibility department when needed.

Maintain own training and continuing education relevant to the position.

Adhere to all internal SOPs, hospital procedures and requirements, state/federal regulations and AATB standards.

Gain & maintain status as an approved vendor with hospitals, as needed.

Other duties within the Tissue Bank operation as assigned.

What you need to be successful?

Education and Experience:

Associate degree combined with at least two years of experience in tissue banking/transplant, related medical or biological field, and/or operating room experience.

Experience with birth tissue acquisition, BSN, RN, LPN, Surgical Tech or Surgical Assist preferred.

Proven ability to be comfortable in a patient care and surgical setting

Certifications:

Certified Tissue Bank Specialist, or ability and commitment to become certified once eligible per AATB requirements (generally within one year of employment)

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $44000,00 - $65750,00 USD annually. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
