POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible to develop, promote, implement, and manage all policies and programs necessary to fully comply with Nestle Modesto's Safety, Health, and Environmental Programs and Loss Control Objectives. Make recommendations and assist with improvements, including industrial hygiene (IH) studies and ensure environmental compliance according to EPA regulations, to ensure a safe work environment for all employees. Develops and coordinates all safety and environmental training and ensures proper communication at all levels of the plant through the utilization of committees, staff, and other team members, to achieve compliance with Federal, State, and Local Government regulations. Manage workers' compensation program including issues relating to medical files, first-aid and injury management, modified duty, temporary transitional duty, ADA, and litigation. Primary contact and resources for union and management regarding all safety issues and their resolution. This role will Supervises Plant Security contractors and participates in employee relations. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains and develops the Nestle Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Systems to maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications at the factory.
- Manages, develops, and updates all plant safety and environmental processes, policies, and procedures, providing guidance and leadership to ensure the Company programs and SOPs are current and compliant with Cal OSHA, Federal OSHA, ISO, and Nestle standards.
- Maintains regulatory documentation including environmental, OSHA logs, Haz Mat data, etc.
- Manages internal and external programs for powered industrial trucks, hearing conservation, CPR training, First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens, Injury and Illness Prevention Plan, etc.
- Coordinates and participates in safety and environmental program audits to assess the effectiveness of programs and their implementation throughout the facility and ensures timely follow-up on findings.
- Investigate all incidents, near misses, first aid, and property damage and ensures follow-up to reduce risk. Administers emergency care to employees who are injured or ill or provides for EMT care. Coordinates safety investigations with department team members to include hazard assessments, recommendations for improvements, and communication of resolution to all affected employees. Coordinates investigation training for supervisors and managers, and reviews root-cause analysis and behavioral sequence of events modified duty as needed. Ensures corrective and preventative actions are implemented to minimize future exposure.
- Maintains proper confidential medical records/documentation, and manages paper files and digital record-keeping regulatory requirements for hearing conservation, respiratory, lockout/tagout, etc. Also, participates in administration of FMLA and ADA, and administers the Employee Assistance Program. Acts as management co-sponsor, along with Plant Manager, for proactive and preventative programs like Behavior Based Safety (BBS) process, etc.
- Creates, develops, conducts, and coordinates all safety training for the Modesto facility, including contractors
- Oversee the safety and environmental committees and maintains follow-up log to continuously improve safety of the workplace.
- Works closely with Engineering, Operations, Training, and QA/Sanitation to ensure equipment or policy changes are compliant with EPA, OSHA, local regulations, and Nestle safety standards.
- Works with Corporate SH&E staff and all levels of plant management. Attends annual divisional meeting and completes follow-up assignments. Works closely with divisional staff to ensure compliance with Nestle standards. Conveys corporate and OSHA requirements to plant management and coordinates necessary training. Coordinates all on-site industrial hygiene and other safety surveys including but not limited to noise and air monitoring, heat stress monitoring, ergonomic surveys, ammonia audits, and other audits/assessments.
- Develops and updates the Emergency Action Plan. Coordinates emergency response on all shifts, including response to medical emergencies and evacuations for fire, ammonia, and natural emergencies (tornados, flooding, power outages, etc.) Security responsibility of the site to manage our 3rd part security services including other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, health, environmental or similar disciplinerequired.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in SH&E roles with the last position held as a Site SH&E leader and/or division, regional, or corporate safety and environmental experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of CA state and federal employment laws, CA Wage and Hour law, compensation practices and health and welfare benefit programs.
- Specialized training in OSHA reporting and requirements as well as Worker's Compensation regulations necessary. Hazardous materials and EPA regulations and/or Emergency Services training helpful. At least 3 years of field/ manufacturing plant experience
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Qualification.
- Proven track record in delivering results by working with cross-functional teams and various initiatives.

- Strong analytical, conceptual thinking, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Must have strong interpersonal and presentation skills, detail oriented
- Ability to manage time effectively and work autonomously.
- Technical writing skills (policies, procedures, reference manuals).
- Ability to establish networks of peers in the factory to lead without direct authority.
- Curiosity, proactivity, willingness, and ability to learn quickly, along with the courage to explore unknown areas and face challenging situations.
The approximate pay range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
