Payroll & Human Resources Specialist

von Briesen & Roper, s.c., one of Wisconsin's leading law firms and a recognized "Best Places to Work" and "Top Workplace," is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll & Human Resources Specialist to join our Milwaukee office.

This role is ideal for a dedicated payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, professional services environment. While general HR administrative support is part of this role, the primary focus is payroll operations, including processing, compliance, reporting, and employee support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process semi-monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now or a similar HRIS/payroll platform
  • Calculate hours worked, verify and enter employee timesheets, and process payroll deductions, benefits, and garnishments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Maintain and audit payroll records, reports, and documentation for accuracy and confidentiality
  • Reconcile payroll data, prepare reports for accounting and leadership, and assist with year-end tax reporting (e.g., W-2s)
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism, discretion, and a customer-service mindset
  • Collaborate with Human Resources team to support employee onboarding, terminations, benefits administration, and data integrity within HRIS
  • Assist with audits, internal reporting, and ad-hoc projects as needed



Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of payroll experience required; experience in a professional services or law firm setting strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now or comparable HRIS/payroll systems is required
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and compliance
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information
