The Opportunity

Our USGO American Gulf - Nashville Area team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Tennessee to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Nashville and the surrounding area.

We are seeking an experienced Multiskilled Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems, reciprocating compressors, turbines, gas measurement facilities, and other related equipment.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.The successful candidate will be required to report out of our compressor station in Hartsville, TN.

What you'll do

  • Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags

  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments

  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation

  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves

  • Perform pipeline locates through the Ohio state one-call system

  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys

  • Operate company truck

  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment

  • Operate and maintain dehydration equipment

  • Operate and maintain all facility assets, painting, weed eating, housekeeping etc.

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects

  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain gas-fired reciprocating compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment

  • Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls, to include heads, pistons, rings, liners, pins, bushings, and bearings

  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain, meter stations, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system

  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment

  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric, and orifice meters

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses and fixtures, using hand and power tools

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem

  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components

  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and associated components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes

  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes

  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start-up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)

  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment with test equipment such as a Hart Communicator and Fluke meter

  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples

  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals, etc.) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use

  • Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags

  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments

  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation

  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves

  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, leak repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects

  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain large and small diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment

  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry

  • Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure

  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices

  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software

  • Must be an expert in Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree to include courses in electricity/electronics

  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls

  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems

  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators

  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment

  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents

  • Experience on the Measurement side can be learned

  • Knowledge of corrosion protection systems

  • Industrial experience in a plant environment

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing

  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home

  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
