The Position

THE PROGRAM

The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is recruiting to fill a maximum of nine (9) positions for its Limited Term (LT) Special Employment Program (SEP). This employment program lasts for up to one-year and provides training and work experience for trainees referred from community-based job-training programs to help them increase their employment skills and experience.

THE POSITIONS

The nine (9) LT SEP placements include placements in the following areas:

*Grounds Maintenance, learning to perform vegetation control, gardening, grounds maintenance, and fire prevention and mitigation work in the upkeep of unimproved land, landscaped areas, and grounds around offices, filter plants, maintenance yards, other facilities

*Pipeline/Construction, learning to perform physical labor work required for the construction, maintenance, or repair of facilities and equipment found in a large regional water distribution and wastewater treatment utility

*Wastewater Maintenance, learning to perform work in a variety of work areas including but not limited to grounds maintenance and painting.

Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to apply:

1.Referral from a formal, community-based job-training program. Prior experience in a pre-apprenticeship program is preferred but not required.

2.Minimum education requirement: Completion of 8th grade education. A high school diploma or its equivalent is highly desirable.

3.Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

4.Must possess physical characteristics to perform a variety of maintenance work including sufficient strength to lift and carry bags of fertilizer or equipment up to 50 pounds.

5.Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and in environments where noxious plants and insects are present, and must be willing to work overtime, as needed.


The Selection Process

1.Visit www.ebmud.com to submit a completed online application, including responses to all supplemental questions.

2.The deadline to apply is Friday, October 3, 2025, by 4:30 p.m. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted. Application materials faxed, mailed or delivered to EBMUD will not be accepted.

3.The selection process for SEP trainees includes:

*Completion of referral form by referring agency scheduled for the week of October 13, 2025

*an online multiple-choice test tentatively scheduled for the week of October 27, 2025

*physical abilities test tentatively scheduled for the week of November 17, 2025

*panel interview tentatively scheduled for the week of December 15, 2025

4.Selected candidates are expected to begin work in January 2026.

NOTE: The recruitment for these Limited Term (LT) positions will not result in the establishment of a civil service list.

All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
