Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting registered professional nurses in the care of the patient. They perform all of the essential generic job functions as listed below.
Essential Generic Job Functions
- Welcome patients and check for proper identification bracelets.
- Prepare the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination, and procedures.
- Draw intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques, ensuring appropriate labeling and processing of specimens to expedite throughput of patients.
- Perform EKG for patients as directed.
- Assure the presence, functionality, and cleanliness of all necessary equipment.
- Assist in the transport of patients to departments or units upon request.
- Assist with preparation as necessary, ensuring the patient is assisted with meals or fed as needed.
- Check inventory of assigned area and restock as directed.
- Ensure room environment is prepared for admission.
- Provide direct hygiene and comfort care to patients including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.
- Take vital signs on admission under the direction of the RN, document accordingly, and notify the RN of results, assist with admission as appropriate inclusive of checking patient ID bands.
- Perform and document glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed.
- Obtain and document daily patient weights and observe and document patient's intake and output.
- Provide a safe patient environment by answering call lights promptly and communicating with the RN immediately for any change in the patient's condition.
- Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs not limited to (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
- This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).

Education Requirement
- Required Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Patient Care Technician Program.
- Preferred Education: N/A
Required Certifications & Licensure
- EKG Course Certificate.
- Phlebotomy Course Certificate.
- BLS.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Required Skills & Experience: N/A
- Preferred Skills & Experience: At least one (1) year PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred.
Schedule Notes
Days- Every Other Weekend. Holidays required. 13 WEEKS. Min 1-year prior PCT exp- required in an Acute setting. Experience with Resp (oxygen, trach, and vents). Worker will be assisting RN with turning and positioning. WILL BE REQUIRED TO FLOAT. FLOAT POOL- ED HOLDING.
