Position Highlights |
The Data Analyst is an essential member of the Office of Assessment and Evaluation at the College of Medicine - Phoenix. This individual will apply systems-thinking to support a data-driven culture through the collection, organization, analysis, and visualization of educational data. The analyst will play a key role in transforming student and programmatic assessment data into meaningful insights to guide curricular improvements, accreditation compliance, and strategic decision-making. This position also supports the development and maintenance of data systems, workflows, and dashboards critical to the Office's mission. The analyst writes programming code in SQL, SAS, R or similar to extract, merge, combine datasets; cleans data and creates metrics based on customer specifications, company or national standards. Independently creates analytical products based on business requirements. Completes basic statistical analyses or predictive modeling. With oversight, analyzes and communicates the benefit of performance improvement projects. Duties & Responsibilities |
Reporting and Data Analytics
- Maintain data across the learner data ecosystem, including understanding data structures, pulling reports, troubleshooting system issues, supporting process improvements, performing analyses, and following archival record keeping best practices.
- Perform analyses of student and programmatic data to support strategic initiatives, accreditation (e.g. Liaison Committee on Medical Education - LCME), and academic reviews; present findings and recommendations to office and college leadership.
- Develop and maintain dashboards that provide snapshots of key learner and program metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with strategic planning consultants and college leadership to build and maintain dashboards that track progress on educational priorities over the next five years.
- Coordinate with departments and units to ensure timely and accurate submission of data necessary for continuous quality improvement (CQI), strategic plan tracking, and annual reporting cycles.
- Analyze strategic plan-related educational data and prepare an annual report summarizing progress and trends for leadership review.
Systems & Process Workflows
- Create, implement, and maintain a centralized learner data warehouse to support the growing needs of the Office of Assessment and Evaluation and the College.
- Review learner and programmatic data and associated workflows to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with institutional standards.
- Develop and manage reports to support educational data needs in response to university, college, departmental, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and LCME requirements.
- Review internal process workflows for efficiency and propose data-driven solutions to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Explore system enhancements or new platforms that could improve office efficiency and educational data reporting capabilities.
- Support the office with data collection and reporting using Excel, Smartsheet, and other data management systems.
- Collaborate with office leadership to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring ongoing data integrity and alignment.
Other Duties
- Maintain a schedule to document and revise internal and campus-wide policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), along with processes to archive and distribute learner and program data.
- Support internal and external stakeholder engagement to ensure data consistency and alignment with reporting needs.
- Assist with data collection and reporting efforts using Excel, Smartsheet, and other relevant platforms.
- Assist with data collection related to learner and leadership recruitment through Qualtrics, surveys, or other tools, and help prepare related reports or memos.
- Contribute to special office initiatives aimed at optimizing workflow and enhancing data-driven practices.
- Maintain up-to-date guidelines and ensure accuracy of relevant web content.
- Stay informed of reporting metrics and requirements, including AAMC, LCME, and diversity-related annual reports.
- Serve on committees, work groups, or project teams that support strategic initiatives set by office leadership.
- Participate in other projects and activities, as assigned, to support the academic mission of the College.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing with different groups/individuals.
- Capable of handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Skilled in managing multiple and competing demands/projects.
- Knowledge of data management principles, FERPA regulations, and data privacy requirements specific to higher education institutions.
- Familiarity with the student life-cycle, from recruitment and admissions to student success and alumni relations.
- Knowledgeable in a range of data analysis and visualization tools, such as Qualtrics, Python, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Snowflake, SAS, and R.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Proficient in using Smartsheet for project and process management.
- Experience building and maintaining dashboards to track key metrics and performance indicators.
- Background in developing and managing data warehouses for scalable storage solutions.
- Experienced at creating automated flows and scripting for systems and application processes.
- Accomplished in producing clear, user-friendly documentation to guide end-users through automated processes.
- Demonstrated experience researching, evaluating, and recommending automated methods to meet business requirements and/or address business problems.
