Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO)

Location: On-Site, Washington, DC (supporting a federal client) **Proposal Effort**

Clearance Requirement: Active SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one through a government background investigation.

Salary Range: $130,000 to $145,000

The Opportunity

We're looking for an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) who can work with system engineers and administrators to develop corrective action plans from internal and external audits. Perform routine self-assessment audits to ensure compliance with agency and federal security requirements. Provide tracking, coordination, and reporting for required cyber security training activities. Review and develop system security plans and other required security documentation as required. Perform vulnerability assessment scans or interpret results of scans and track mitigation actions and progress of system engineers and administrators. Perform certification and accreditation activities as required to ensure assigned systems remain accredited and risk is managed to an acceptable level.

What You'll Do



  • Review, update, and maintain cybersecurity policies, procedures, directives, and templates.
  • Develop, edit, and format cybersecurity documentation including policies, standards, procedures, user manuals, and reports.
  • Conduct risk assessments, gap analyses, and inventory reviews; recommend improvements.
  • Support the Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process, ensuring alignment with NIST 800-53 rev. 5, FISMA, and FIPS 199 requirements.
  • Perform POA&M updates and remediation, assist with closure requests, and support ongoing authorization (OA).
  • Provide vulnerability scans, security testing, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to update, review, and archive cybersecurity documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance across contingency planning, incident response, and change management processes.
  • Work with system engineers and administrators to develop corrective action plans from internal and external audits.
  • Perform routine self-assessment audits to ensure compliance with agency and federal security requirements.
  • Provide tracking, coordination, and reporting for required cybersecurity training activities.

  • Conduct certification and accreditation activities to ensure systems remain accredited and risks are managed appropriately.



What We're Looking For



  • Active SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one through a government background investigation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Business and one (1) year relevant experience with professional certification -OR-Associate's degree and two (2) years relevant experience with professional certification.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Important Note: The hiring process includes a government background check, which may take several weeks. A contingent offer will be extended pending successful completion of this clearance, and employment cannot begin until it is granted.
