Description

The NASA IT portfolio within the Federal Civilian IT sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Windows 365 Virtual Desktop Engineer. This is primarily a telework position, but the ideal candidate will reside within reasonable commute distance from a NASA operating center and have flexibility to go on-site when needed for specific activities. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to support the NASA End-User Services and Technologies (NEST) mission. Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role are designing, testing, implementing and maintaining the Windows 365 virtual desktop service for NASA.

  • Architect and Designa scalable, secure, and high-performance Windows 365 Cloud PC environment to support enterprise virtual desktop needs.
  • Lead the end-to-end implementationof the Windows 365 Virtual Desktop service, including infrastructure setup, configuration, and integration with existing enterprise systems.
  • Develop comprehensive documentationfor architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and user support materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams(networking, security, identity, and support) to ensure seamless integration and alignment with enterprise IT standards.
  • Establish and execute testing protocolsto validate performance, security, and user experience prior to production rollout.
  • Define and implement policiesfor user provisioning, access control, device management, and data protection within the Windows 365 environment.
  • Monitor and maintainthe health, performance, and availability of the virtual desktop infrastructure, including proactive issue resolution and capacity planning.
  • Implement automation and scriptingto streamline deployment, updates, and management of Cloud PCs.
  • Provide Tier 3 supportfor escalated issues related to Windows 365 and virtual desktop services.
  • Stay current with Microsoft 365 and Windows 365 roadmap updates, evaluating and implementing new features and capabilities as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliancewith organizational security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and deliver trainingand onboarding materials for IT support teams and end users.
  • Create, maintain, and deploy Windows client images for use in Windows 365
  • Create, maintain, and deploy software packages for use in Windows 365 client virtual machines
  • Package, test, and deploy operating system and software updates to Windows 365 client virtual machines
  • Maintain 99.9% availability for the Windows 365 service
  • Create user documentation and communication materials regarding the Windows 365 service
  • Develop and execute test plans for new endpoint hardware and operating system deployments
  • Resolve incidents and fulfill requests in alignment with established program processes and in a timeframe that meets or exceeds SLA requirements for incident handling, request fulfillment and service availability (uptime).
  • Work with vendors to resolve technical issues, monitor product roadmaps, and implement product changes.
  • Support other client management functions within the NEST Enterprise Operations team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Public Trust or other active security clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's degreein Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field and4-8 years of relevant experience, orMaster's degreewith2-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experiencedesigning, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments in an enterprise setting.
  • Strong understandingof Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Intune, Entra ID, Entra Conditional Access, and Configuration Manager.
  • Demonstrated abilityto independently lead technical projects from concept through implementation, with measurable impact on operational outcomes.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skillsacross Windows OS, networking, identity, and virtualization layers.
  • Ability to collaboratewith cross-functional teams to develop integrated solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior technical staff, including code or configuration reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Deep technical knowledgein virtualization, cloud computing, and enterprise IT infrastructure, with a broad understanding of related domains such as security, networking, and identity management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certificationssuch as:
    • Microsoft Certified: Windows 365 Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
  • Hands-on experiencedeploying Windows 365 in a greenfield environment, including pilot testing, user onboarding, and production rollout.
  • Experience with automation toolssuch as PowerShell, Azure Automation, or Microsoft Graph API for managing virtual desktop environments.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust security principlesand their application in virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Experience integrating Windows 365 with third-party identity providers, monitoring tools, or endpoint protection platforms.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including VPN, DNS, firewalls, and bandwidth optimization for cloud-based desktop delivery.
  • Experience with hybrid identity models, including Azure AD Connect and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
  • Understanding of licensing modelsand cost optimization strategies for Microsoft 365 and Windows 365 services.
  • Background in ITIL-based service management, including incident, change, and configuration management processes.
  • Experience working in regulated environments(e.g., government, healthcare, finance) with a focus on compliance and audit readiness.
