The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for planning, developing, and reviewing electrical design work for complex infrastructure and facility projects. This role involves producing detailed drawings and documentation, preparing design estimates, and coordinating with clients and project teams to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards. This position focuses on SmartPlant 3D electrical design and requires expertise in creating both 3D and 2D designs using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD, and SmartSketch. The Senior Electrical Designer will support the development of new facility infrastructure for Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Air Force projects. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational and technical skills, sound problem-solving ability, and experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Job Responsibilities
Lead and guide electrical designers and drafters in preparing layouts, detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, and construction drawings
Develop complete electrical system designs, including conduit, grounding, lighting, and raceway systems, with minimal supervision
Produce detailed 3D scale models and associated construction documentation
Prepare and assist with material requisitions, bid evaluations, and design estimates
Ensure all design work complies with NEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, and project-specific standards
Participate in constructability and design procedure reviews to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs
Conduct jobsite visits to resolve design issues and interpret drawings and technical documents
Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior design staff
Model electrical systems-such as rooms, equipment, cable trays, conduit, duct banks, lighting, receptacles, grounding, and lightning protection-using SmartPlant 3D
Create bills of material and detailed installation drawings using SmartSketch and AutoCAD
Perform lighting calculations using AGI 32 and grounding grid analyses using ETAP
Coordinate 3D model activities across multiple disciplines and reconcile interferences
Develop and maintain material specifications using SpecsIntact software
Collaborate with systems engineering teams to verify and integrate project requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
Associate degree or technical certificate in Engineering, Drafting, or CAD design, or equivalent experience
7-8 years of experience with degree/certificate, or 9-12 years of equivalent design experience without
U.S. citizenship required
Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
Required Knowledge and Skills
Strong knowledge of NEC codes, NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE standards
Proficiency in SmartPlant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD
Familiarity with SpecsIntact software and material specification development
Experience with cable management systems such as SETROUTE
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-discipline designs and resolve design conflicts
Experience developing electrical system drawings for industrial, utility, or mission-critical facilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
Familiarity with ISO 9000 or comparable quality systems
Previous project experience with DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA preferred
Project Overview
This position supports the Sentinel Program, which modernizes the ground-based component of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and related launch infrastructure. The role contributes to the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase, focusing on the design and development of new ground infrastructure. Team members in this role will contribute to high-profile government projects requiring strict adherence to safety, security, and quality standards.
