Job Summary

The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for the design and development of civil and infrastructure systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Air Force projects. This role includes preparing and reviewing designs for earthwork, underground utilities, roads, foundations, and site profiles. The position specifically supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Program during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical capability, organizational skills, teamwork, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovative design execution.

Job Responsibilities




  • Prepare and develop designs, studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements



  • Develop grading and backfill designs and related construction documentation



  • Design roadways, site layouts, and foundations for various infrastructure applications



  • Perform formal engineering calculations and prepare corresponding design deliverables



  • Support field activities, including boring oversight, site inspections, and evaluations of existing facilities



  • Review vendor and subcontractor data and incorporate relevant details into civil design solutions



  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated and constructible design packages



  • Execute design work to meet project schedules while maintaining high-quality and safety standards



  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and process improvements



  • Ensure all work adheres to project procedures, codes, and regulatory requirements




Education and Experience Requirements




  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related field with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant experience without a degree




Required Knowledge and Skills




  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, design codes, and specifications



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Visio, and common civil design software tools



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills



  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively



  • Working familiarity with applicable industry and regulatory standards




Preferred Qualifications




  • Master's degree in Civil or related Engineering discipline



  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering (U.S.)



  • Experience with ISO-9000 or similar quality assurance programs



  • Prior experience working on government or defense projects (DoD, USAF, USACE, NAVFAC, or DOE)



  • Working knowledge of Revit and/or InRoads



  • Intermediate knowledge of CSI MasterFormat or SpecsIntact specification systems



  • Experience with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) requirements



  • Background in complex excavation design and field execution experience




Project Overview

This position supports the Sentinel Program, a modernization effort for the ground-based component of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. The role focuses on the design and development of new civil and infrastructure systems during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. Team members in this role will contribute to high-visibility national defense projects requiring strict adherence to safety, security, and quality standards.
