The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Administrative Assistant for the School of Arts and Sciences. The Senior Administrative Assistant is the Office Manager for the
SAS Douglass Advising Center.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Oversees the day-to- day administration of the office organizing, coordinating, and supervising the staff and daily operations.
- Reviews and makes final decisions regarding re-enrollment and withdrawal applications.
- Corresponds with students and SAS an University central offices.
- Resolves issues.
- Provides academic support regarding re-enrollments, withdrawals, and related matters.
- Provides administrative support to the Director of the Office for Non-Traditional and Special Populations, as well as to the Associate Dean, and the assistant deans in the Douglass Advising Center.
- Coordinates events, programs, and seminars.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelors degree and post-graduate experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of advising practices, office administration, accepted management and supervisory practices, well-developed interpersonal skills, work organization, coordination, facilitation, higher education principles and legislation, database management and/or report writing principles and practices.
- A minimum of two years relevant post- graduate experience in higher education administrative and/or advising function, good communication skills, and computer literacy.

- The Office of Academic Services maintains paperless files - candidate must be fluent and comfortable with all forms of electronic communications and processes.
- The candidate must have experience working with sensitivity, yet retaining the integrity of the OAAS policies.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Familiarity with the Rutgers University IMS system and the ImageNow/Perceptive Content data storage application is preferable.

- Rutgers University Student Records Database (IMS) - a secure system providing access to all student records Image Now/Perceptive Content - a secure system used for file management at SAS in lieu of paper records Degree Navigator - degree audit system.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- The office is an open environment, meaning that the space is shared by 3 staff members and multiple student workers, without privacy barriers.
- Furthermore, the office is open and exposed to the Advising Center, which is a public space utilized by students and members of the university community.
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a fishbowl and, thus, display appropriate discretion, as well as have strong concentration skills permitting attention to detail in a distracting environment.
