Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Preside over a variety of Municipal Court hearings and trials in criminal and civil cases in accordance with R.C.W. 3.50.010 or as otherwise assigned by law.

  • Work collaboratively with Judicial Specialists, and other, when appropriate to manage court cases.

  • Hear and weigh testimony and evidence presented to determine appropriate ruling.

  • Impose just sentences and penalties as prescribed by law; utilize remedial and behavioral modification programs as appropriate.

  • Communicate with Judicial Administrative Officer and other court staff regarding routine policies and procedures.

  • Communicate with a variety of City departments and agencies including legal, police, fire, public works, parks, probation, domestic violence victims advocate and others as directed by the Presiding Judge.

  • Conduct administrative tasks at the direction of judicial officers.

  • Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Citizen of the United States of America and the State of Washington.

  • An attorney with a WSBA and licensed to practice law in good standing in the State of Washington.

  • Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint-based records check.

  • Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
