Job Summary/Overview
The Production Manager plans, directs, and coordinates production operations overseeing multiple departments. Responsible for formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials. Manage through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring zero lost time injuries. Responsible for meeting or exceeding the budgeted OE and financial measures of safety, quality, on-time delivery, and productivity.
- Coordinates and facilitates production and maintenance operations in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the Plant Manager.
- Develops plans for efficient use of raw materials, tools, equipment, and employees that insures the consistent production of a high quality product in the most cost effective manner.
- Reviews production costs and product quality, working closely with engineering to develop the necessary corrective action when required to enhance profitability of the Chattanooga Plants.
- Review financial statements, sales or activity reports, or other performance data to measure productivity or goal achievement or to identify areas needing cost reduction or program improvement.
- Prepare work schedules and assign specific duties.
- Monitor suppliers to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed goods or services within budgetary limits.
- Reviews Work in Process and Tooling Inventory levels and accuracy assuring necessary actions are taken.
- Assures that all Environmental and Safety policies, procedures and compliance programs are followed.
- Works with the Manufacturing Engineer to facilitate the planning and implementation of Lean initiatives.
- Directs preparation of production budgets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to count and do basic math without the assistance of a calculator. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to read and interpret accounting and financial reports.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Oversees all processes at local operation.
- Lead project teams and continuous improvement activities.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), internet software, and an inventory control system (EG: AS400, SAP, CMBIS).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or five to seven years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily on a consistent basis.
- Good organizational, planning, and communication skills required.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing preferred.
