Position Highlights |
The selected Research Scientist will lead and support electrochemical and hydrometallurgical research in corrosion, extractive metallurgy and nuclear materials. This will entail managing laboratory research tasks for multiple projects, directing and advising undergraduate and graduate student researchers, pursuing internal and external funding for projects, publication of research results and interfacing with industry and government customers. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Manage the electrometallurgy research lab.
- Develop electrochemical testing methods for a variety of mineral and metallurgical samples, executing testing and reporting results.
- Manage lab inventory, maintain a safe and clean operating environment, and train new personnel.
- Manufacturing process development - Complete required tasks related to the manufacturing processes including additive manufacturing, welding and joining, and traditional metallurgical processing such as casting and forging.
- Complete mechanical testing of materials and extraction of test specimens from manufactured materials.
- Scientific publications - Lead authorship of scientific publications such as journal articles and conference proceedings to disseminate research results.
- Pursuit of funding - Lead or assist in pursuing internal and external funding to support the research activities of the lab.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of electrochemical testing methods, extractive metallurgy and advanced manufacturing processes as related to nuclear reactors and mining operations.
- Ability to be in environments that contain hazards which may includes a variety of physical conditions. Such examples include, but not limited to: Proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, or exposure to chemicals in a work setting.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
- 5 years of professional experience in metallurgy, manufacturing and electrochemistry.
