The Director of Planned Giving will build on the foundation of engagement and grow the planned giving program. Established in 1987 and named for Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and noted musician Walter Piston, who endowed the BSO's Principal Flute Chair with a bequest, the Walter Piston Society recognizes and honors those who have provided for the future of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, or Tanglewood through one of a variety of irrevocable deferred gifts, or by including the BSO in their long-term plans. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Individual Philanthropy and Planned Giving and a key member of the development team at the BSO, the Director of Planned Giving will be responsible for designing, directing, and implementing a comprehensive program to promote and secure planned gifts for the organization. The Director of Planned Giving will partner with colleagues to assist in strategizing and preparing solicitations to help ensure that the orchestra's endowment, capital, and special project funding priorities are met. The Director of Planned Giving will also work closely with trustees, advisors, colleagues, and other key leaders to identify and qualify new prospects and will serve as a key relationship manager as part of the front-line fundraising team. The BSO engages millions of people each year in the remarkable diversity and wonder of orchestral music and maintains homes at its iconic venues, Boston's Symphony Hall and Tanglewood in Western Massachusetts. From the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Charles River Esplanade to community concerts throughout Greater Boston, an annual BSO Youth and Family series at Symphony Hall, humanities programs at the Tanglewood Learning Institute, and tour performances in concert halls around the world, the BSO remains committed to innovation, creativity, cultural relevance, education, civic engagement, and making orchestral music accessible to audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of familiarity. The BSO prefers candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus at least five years of advancement experience, including three years of planned giving fundraising experience. Experience in an arts setting is preferred for this position. The BSO will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to the BSO, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and rsum. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the responsibilities and qualifications specified in the position prospectus. The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $175,000 annually. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is committed to the inclusion of all qualified candidates.
