Responsibilities

Palm Shores is looking for a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to join our team!

Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11-17 who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family and social challenges. The dedicated professionals at Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center provide quality mental health treatment for children. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home. We are a proud provider of the Patriot Support Program.

As the Recreational Therapist you will plan and implement an activities program including but not limited to therapeutic leisure skills and activities, leisure education and leisure awareness. Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games and community outings. Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent. Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups. Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude.

Activies include:

  • Art projects (painting, coloring, collages)
  • Music
  • Yoga / Mindfulness
  • Board Games /Puzzles
  • Group games (4-square, volleyball, kickball, basket ball, etc)
  • Group Outings

Benefits:

  • Full-Time (40 hours a week); proving group three days a week during the day
  • Work schedule:Tuesday-Saturday with Sunday/Monday Off *OR*
    Sunday - Thursday with Friday/Saturday off

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy required.
  • Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) required.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years' experience providing Recreation/Activities Therapy. Prefer minimum of two (2) years in a psychiatric setting with adolescent population.
  • Working knowledge of recreational therapy programming. Effective oral and written communication skill.
  • Extensive sitting, standing, walking, reading, lifting over (50 lbs.) pounds and participation in active physical recreational program.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow: policies, procedures, and written treatment plans.
  • May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Handle with Care prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 7 days of employment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
