Overview
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Data Analyst, reporting to the Enterprise Risk Management Director, plays a key role in designing, leading, and sustaining the Bank's Enterprise Risk Metrics program. This position develops the processes and framework to capture, calculate, aggregate, and report enterprise risk metrics, ensuring that alerts or threshold breaches are properly escalated for review. The analyst oversees governance activities to confirm that program processes and controls are complete, accurate, and operating as intended, supporting the integrity of the Bank's risk data. The role exercises independent judgment on important matters related to risk metric design, data quality, and reporting, and provides analysis and recommendations that inform executive management and the Board of Directors, ensuring risk performance is measured and communicated in alignment with established risk appetite and strategic objectives. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs, leads, and maintains the Enterprise Risk Metrics program to capture, calculate, aggregate, and report enterprise risk metrics.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in risk metrics, data quality, and reporting methodologies, providing expertise across the Bank.
- Oversees governance activities, exercising independent judgment to ensure program processes and controls are properly designed and operating effectively in alignment with the Bank's risk appetite framework.
- Serves as the central point of contact for all risk metric-related initiatives and inquiries.
- Provides recommendations and data analysis to the Director of Enterprise Risk Management and the Chief Enterprise Risk Executive to support decision-making by executive management and the Board of Directors.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation of risk metrics, methodologies, data sources, validation procedures, and governance processes.
- Oversees the enterprise risk dashboard, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of key risk indicators (KRIs).
- Partners with IT and business units to design and enhance automated data feeds, dashboards, and reporting functionality.
- Conducts regular data quality reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of enterprise risk metrics.
- Establishes and monitors data quality rules and exception reports, escalating issues as necessary.
- Collaborates with metric owners and business units to align on definitions, thresholds, and reporting frequencies.
- Coordinates the escalation of threshold breaches, supporting root cause analysis and documenting remediation plans and timelines.
- Supports internal and external audits and regulatory reviews by providing relevant risk metric data and documentation.
- Provides training and guidance to users of the risk dashboard and related tools.
- Identifies and implements opportunities to streamline data collection, validation, and reporting processes.
- Prepares periodic ERM reports, including updates on risk metrics, regulatory excellence indicators, and progress against risk appetite.
- Participates in integrated risk management training activities and stays informed of industry best practices and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Provides expertise and analysis on special tasks and projects as requested by the Chief Risk Officer, Director of Enterprise Risk Management, and Governance & Strategic Initiatives Officer.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management, data analytics, or a related discipline, demonstrating the ability to design, implement, and manage risk metrics programs.
- 5-7 years of experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SSRS), including developing dashboards, reports, and automated data feeds.
- 2-4 years of experience in bank regulatory risk, including operational risk, compliance, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), BSA/AML/OFAC, fraud, legal, or reputational risk.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SAS, R, MS Excel, MS SQL), including the creation of complex queries and interpretation of results.
- Strong understanding of risk metrics, thresholds, and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to apply independent judgment and provide analysis and recommendations that inform executive management or board-level decision-making.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- In-depth knowledge of banking practices, principles, and interrelationships, particularly in areas covered by enterprise risk management programs.
- Skilled in common business productivity tools for analysis, reporting, and presentations.
- Ability to design, implement, and maintain risk metrics programs and dashboards.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, including working with cross-functional teams to align on metrics, definitions, and reporting.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, excellent time management, persistence, and determination in problem solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Risk Management, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
