What You Will Do:

This is a highly collaborative and dynamic role, perfect for someone who's passionate about safe patient care, teamwork, and driving continuous improvement across the Children's Center, and beyond throughout the organization. The Patient Safety Specialist (PSS) for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center is a core member of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Patient Safety Office, and is specifically embedded in the pediatric hospital. This role works closely with pediatric quality leadership, Quality Improvement, and leaders and staff from across all pediatric care areas-- from inpatient units and ambulatory clinics to the pediatric OR, PACU, and ancillary services. The PSS acts as a connector between frontline staff, local and senior leaders, and support teams, helping to build and sustain a strong culture of safety. On any given day, the PSS can be reviewing patient safety event reports, supporting local safety efforts, The facilitating debriefs after critical events, or helping teams coordinate safety improvement projects that impact multiple areas of care.

Who Should Apply:



  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN); requires active matriculation in a Master's degree program. Completion of the Master's degree must be completed within 18 months of hire into the job.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience; with at least 2 years of leadership participation in CUSP methodologies, and/or program/project management.
  • Experience in performance improvement and/or team facilitation preferred; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Science of Patient Safety, high reliability, and just culture.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to acute care health facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent Oral and written communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and other desktop applications is required.


Salary Range: Minimum 56.34/hour - Maximum 87.32/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
