THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will operate with a high degree of independence, making on-site decisions regarding the placement and documentation of control and topographic points. Your responsibilities will include setting up, operating, and maintaining various surveying instruments, as well as establishing centerlines, measuring angles, and verifying the alignment of structures. You will also stake out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points, while utilizing levels to determine ground elevations, establish benchmarks, and assess road grades. Proficiency in operating theodolites, electronic distance measuring devices, electronic total stations, data collectors, portable computers, and telecommunications equipment is essential. Additionally, you will employ a range of GPS receivers and methodologies to pinpoint mapping and survey-grade locations, perform necessary trigonometric and algebraic calculations, and prepare field sketches and notes, ensuring accuracy by reviewing the work of others. Your role will encompass all functions of the survey team, including operating automatic levels, transits, data collectors, electronic total stations, prisms, and serving as a chain and rod person, utilizing both conventional and electronic tools.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or
  • One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position will require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
