IT/Cybersecurity Intern

Position Summary:

We're looking for a motivated, early-career professional with a strong foundation in either helpdesk support or cybersecurity who is ready to grow their technical skills in a dynamic environment. This role combines first-level technical support with opportunities to assist in cybersecurity operations. You'll be the first point of contact for user issues, while also supporting the cybersecurity team with routine monitoring, response, and risk management tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to user-reported IT issues via phone, email, and ticketing systems
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues
• Provide user support for account access, password resets, and application usage
• Assist with onboarding/offboarding of user accounts and systems
• Monitor security tools and dashboards for potential threats or anomalies
• Assist in running antivirus, patch management, and vulnerability scans
• Document incidents, findings, and resolutions clearly and accurately
• Support compliance and auditing tasks as directed by the security team
• Perform information security and privacy risk analysis
• Provide information security guidance to internal and external customers, aligning with applicable regulations and cybersecurity best practices
• Research emerging information security topics, tools, and techniques
• Participate in meetings and training sessions to expand knowledge and skills in various areas of technology
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Must be able to report onsite in Windsor Mill, MD
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergrad (3rd year+)or graduate degree program in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
• 6 months to 2 years of hands-on experience in IT helpdesk or cybersecurity
• Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux operating systems
• Familiarity with network fundamentals and common security threats
• Comfortable using remote support tools and ticketing systems
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Eagerness to learn and grow
• Experience with Active Directory, Office 365, or basic scripting
• Exposure totools like Splunk, Wireshark, CrowdStrike, or Microsoft Defender preferred
• ITIL, CompTIA A+, Security+, or similar certification preferred

The hourly rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
