The Rehabilitation Services Representative Performs a wide variety of skilled and complex clerical functions using a computer and the Hospital Information System. Greets and interviews patients to collect appropriate data. Creates patient records and/or enters orders into the computer. Receives visitors and telephone call, refers to appropriate staff. Sets up patient appointments; prepares patient folders for clinicians; billing and receiving patients for services; prepares cash disbursements; and overseeing office and equipment maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Obtains patient signature authorizing consent for medical treatment, assignment of insurance benefits, release of medical record as a condition for payment of charges and patient financial responsibility for services rendered.
  • Determines consistency and completeness of specialized data in forms and records; initiates or takes action to resolve problems; and adjusts data before processing.
  • Gives and receives detailed information regarding departmental activities, policies and or procedures to employees and the public.
  • Schedules, cancels, re-schedules and coordinates all appointments for the department. Prepares schedules and reports as required. Maintains good working relationships with referring physicians and agencies.
  • Receives visitors and telephone calls. Refers to appropriate staff member.
  • Deals discreetly with sensitive, confidential patient information in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Insures that patients are ready according to their schedule. Keeps the department informed about potential problems or conflicts.
  • Interacts with physicians and offices via telephone or fax, furnishing information as
    requested.


Other Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Assists with the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, quiet work environment within the department with special attention to assigned work area and patient waiting area.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of office supplies.
  • Operates office machines such as calculator, photocopiers, fax and computers.
  • Specific knowledge of rehabilitation services treatments and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to the patients' age. This position will most frequently interact with adults, geriatrics and adolescent patients and less frequently with children, infants.


Minimum Requirements:



  • PC experience required.
  • Previous working in a health care setting to include rehabilitation terminology and
    insurance requirements preferred or any combination of education and experience to
    provide the required knowledge, skill and ability.
